Scaling & Root Planing

Scaling and root planing, also known as deep cleanings, are able to reduce the plaque, tartar, and bacteria accumulation within the mouth to help control the infection. First, our team will thoroughly clear away all plaque and tartar as far down as the pockets of the gums. Then, we’ll remove hardened pockets of bacteria from the roots of the teeth. This will prevent the infection from spreading and leading to tooth loss as well as allow your gum tissue to reconnect to the teeth, protecting the more vulnerable structures that lie below the gumline.

Antibiotic Therapy

For more progressed cases of gum disease, we may recommend antibiotic therapy in conjunction with a deep cleaning. We use Arestin, which are small microspheres that gradually release antibiotics in the pockets of your gums to target the infection’s origin over the course of two weeks. This means you won’t have to worry about incorporating a prescription mouthwash or pills into your daily routine.
